Relaxing fantasy world-builder

Dungeon Sweeper is a free-to-play simulation game from indie game developer Setamo. This is a relaxing clicker game that tasks the players with unlocking or expanding a world, with the only target being able to identify dungeon locations. Explore different biomes and locations in a growing hex grid platform, from towns, forests, to graveyards and more.

Great for fantasy enthusiasts looking for a fun game that combines Minesweeper-style puzzle solving with a relaxing fantasy world-building premise will definitely enjoy Dungeon Sweeper. Other similar games include Dorfromantik or Outpath: First Journey, either in the hex-based grids or the relaxing experiences overall.

Build your world, find your dungeons

The first thing to note about Dungeon Sweeper is its overall aesthetic. It effectively combines pixel art plus a hex grid-based strategy to create an experience that is intuitive yet pleasing. Each hexagonal tile contains a specific element, such as a house, a building, or a tree, making it easy to mark and identify each specific location. Paired with relaxing elevator music, the game is a complete package for passing the time.

The main objective of the game is to unlock more of the world while finding where the dungeons are. Every unlocked tile adds to your score. The higher scores you achieve, the more biomes appear on your map. Also, the controls are easy and intended for a mouse-only experience. You have the left mouse to unlock a square and you can hold right click to place a flag for suspected dungeons.

As an indie game, however, there are still a couple of bugs that hinder the gameplay experience. Players have reported the game crashing after reaching a certain point, while in some cases it freezes. Either way, it requires you to restart the game, losing your progress. Still, there’s a lot of hope since the developer is keen on addressing the issues and taking notes on the community response.

A fun and relaxing experience

Whether you get stuck at the early stages of the game or grow your fantasy world into an unimaginable scale, Dungeon Sweeper remains an enjoyable experience. Its use of unassuming pixel art paired with calming elevator music works well with its Minesweeper-style gameplay. It’s straightforward, yet very addictive, making it perfect for passing the time. It’s definitely worth trying.
